In the area of consultancy and technical assistance, the Department provides advice across a range of sectors including:

• Capacity building
• Policy and sectoral studies and analysis
• Economic policy and planning
• Financial and economic analysis
• Public investment programming
• Project management
• Project cycle management

The format of such consultancy work can vary from one-off projects to a series of ongoing involvements across a long period of time. Examples of work undertaken include conducting independent appraisals and evaluations, undertaking in-depth studies and advising government ministries on development issues.
